c.1966 Bandai, Volkswagen Beetle with Visible Engine in Original Box

Superb near mint example of the classic 1960's VW. It's all tin litho, battery operated, and works great. Made by Bandai in Japan. Two door model and very accurately designed. Beige body with red, white, and blue striped interior. Comes complete with its original display box with celluloid window.

Battery operation moves it forward or reverse. The engine fan can be seen rotating through the clear rear trunk. It also has a small light just beneath the fan, but it doesn't light up. All wires are connected so most likely it's the bulb, or a loose connection.

Chrome plated parts include hood divider, front and rear windshield frames, front and rear bumpers, and head lights. The correct VW logo is on all four bubble-type hub caps. Underside chassis is a single metal plate. It has both front and rear blue tinted celluloid windshields. Tires are solid black rubber. Steering wheel is plastic.

The box for this model was produced in three variations. I think this one is the nicest because of its full color night time illustration which is not on the other two. Vehicle schematic operation is shown on another panel, as well as other models. Additional schematics shows how one panel can be folded onto itself revealing a die cut display window underneath (with original celluloid in perfect condition). Sticker on one of the box ends confirms that this is the correct box for this toy.
